Symbiosis

Symbiosis explores the relationship between two interconnected blown forms, each mutually dependent on the other's existence for balance and stability. Each piece embodies its own character which is accentuated through the process of cutting and polishing, thereby exposing voids that enable the viewer to see both the internal and exterior spaces.

The fluid curves and bulges of free blown glass are what intrigue and inspire me. This living, glowing and breathing material instigates every decision I make during the hot working process. It is this level of spontaneity that I love; and the thought of the unknown result. During the precise process of cutting and polishing I can be more contemplative and my decision making more controlled. The contiguity of hot and cold processes is evident in the effect of the angular edges juxtaposed against the movement of the curved edges in the body of my pieces.
